Les comédies de Ken Scott ont du succès dans le monde entier. Que ce soit par ses œuvres originales en québécois ou l’un de ses nombreux remakes en anglais, italien ou hindi, il scénarise et réalise des comédies universelles de grande qualité. Fort d’un succès populaire et critique, Scott fait du cinéma à la fois fédérateur, divertissant et intelligent.

Sa carrière a commencé au Québec sur les planches des plus grandes scènes du Festival Juste Pour Rire en gagnant le prix de la Révélation du Festival en 1992, au sein de son groupe de comédie. Détenteur d'un certificat en scénarisation cinématographique de l’Université du Québec à Montréal, Ken Scott se lance ensuite dans l’écriture. Il scénarise un premier long métrage La vie après l'amour, pour lequel il reçoit d’emblée la reconnaissance de son talent en récoltant des nominations en 2001 aux Prix Jutra ainsi qu’aux prix Génie. Grand succès au box-office, La vie après l’amour gagne le Billet d’or pour les meilleures recettes au guichet au Québec.

En 2002, Ken Scott crée et écrit la comédie de situation Le Plateau, diffusée à Radio-Canada, dans laquelle il interprète aussi l’un des rôles principaux. La même année, il signe son deuxième scénario de long-métrage, La Grande Séduction. Le film connait un succès inégalé pour une comédie québécoise. Tout d’abord, il est sélectionné en 2003 à la prestigieuse Quinzaine des réalisateurs du Festival de Cannes où il reçoit une ovation de 12 minutes. Ensuite, l’œuvre de Ken Scott, réalisée par Jean-François Pouliot, devient l’un des plus grands succès de tous les temps au box-office québécois. Succès critique, le film est présenté dans plus de 65 festivals internationaux et est vendu à l’étranger dans plus de 25 pays, remportant de surcroît de nombreux prix prestigieux tels que le Prix du public au très prestigieux Festival de Sundance.

Scott écrit ensuite deux autres scénarios qui sont produits coup sur coup. Les films Maurice Richard et Guide de la Petite Vengeance se retrouvent tous les deux en nominations pour meilleur scénario aux prix Génie 2007. En 2008, il passe à la réalisation avec Les doigts croches, qu’il tourne en Argentine avec Roy Dupuis, Patrice Robitaille, Claude Legault, Paolo Noël et Jean-Pierre Bergeron. Le film lui vaudra à nouveau une nomination aux prix Jutra pour le meilleur scénario.

Il réalise et coécrit ensuite le film Starbuck, mettant en vedette Patrick Huard, qui obtiendra un succès retentissant critique et commercial au Canada ainsi qu’à l’international. Le film gagnera le Prix du public dans plusieurs festivals à travers le monde, notamment au Festival International de Films de Santa Barbara et au Festival International de Films de Palm Springs. Le film remportera également le Prix spécial du Jury au Festival de films de l’Alpe-d’Huez. À la fin de son exploitation en salle, Starbuck reçoit le Golden Reel ainsi que le prix du meilleur scénario aux Prix Génie, et le Billet d’or aux Jutra. À ce jour, le film a été vendu dans plus de 100 pays.

En 2013, Scott réalise Delivery Man, son premier film américain, avec Dreamworks, le prestigieux studio de Steven Spielberg. Dans cette production, Ken Scott a la chance de diriger des acteurs tel que Vince Vaughn, Chris Pratt et Cobie Smulders. Le film fait un box-office de plus de 50 millions de dollars.

Grâce au succès de Delivery Man, Scott réalise l’année suivante son second long-métrage aux États-Unis, Unfinished business, mettant lui aussi en vedette Vince Vaughn et d’autres acteurs de renom, tel que Tom Wilkinson, Dave Franco et Sienna Miller. En 2017, il réalise L'extraordinaire voyage du fakir, tiré du best-seller mondial de Romain Puértolas. Cette co-production France-Italie-Inde est vendue dans plus de 160 pays à travers le monde et met en vedette Danush, Bérénice Bejo, Erin Moriarty, Barkhad Abdi et Gérard Jugnot.

Le talent de Ken Scott pour écrire des histoires au charme et à l’humour universel a entraîné la production de nombreuses adaptations de ses films. Ainsi, La grande séduction fut adaptée en anglais, français et italien. Quant à Starbuck, il fut également adapté pour le public français dans Fonzy de même qu’en anglais dans le film américain Delivery Man (2013).

Avec Au Revoir le Bonheur, Ken Scott revient tourner au Québec pour la première fois en 10 ans. Le film est par ailleurs invité en compétition officielle au Festival de l’Alpe-d’Huez de France en janvier 2022, où ses quatre comédiens principaux se mériteront le prix du meilleur acteur.

D’un projet à l’autre, ce créateur audacieux sait se renouveler et prendre des risques. Maîtrisant l’écriture et la mise en image, il sait rallier le public et la critique, en français comme en anglais, ici comme ailleurs. Son apport exceptionnel a d’ailleurs été souligné par la France qui en a fait un Chevalier de l’Ordre des arts et des lettres en 2018.

Avec de nombreux projets en développement, il va sans dire que Ken Scott n’a pas fini de faire sa marque dans l’histoire du cinéma.

Ken Scott's comedies have been successful across the globe. From his original works in Quebec to his many remakes in English, Italian or Hindi, he writes and directs high-quality comedies with tremendous universal appeal. With his critical and box-office achievements, Scott has forged himself a reputation of making smart, entertaining films with international appeal.

His career began at the Just For Laughs Festival, where his comedy troupe won the Festival's Revelation Grand Prize in 1992. Soon after, Ken Scott began his career as a writer. His talent was immediately recognized for La vie après l'amour, his first feature film for which he was nominated for a Jutra Award and Genie Award in 2001. A smash hit with audiences, La vie après l’amour won the Golden Ticket for best box-office performance in Quebec.

In 2002, Ken Scott created and wrote the Radio-Canada sitcom Le Plateau, in which he also played a lead role. That same year, he wrote his second feature film script La grande séduction, which was an unparalleled success for a Quebec comedy. In 2003 it was selected for the prestigious Directors' Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a 12-minute standing ovation. Ken Scott’s screenplay, directed by Jean-François Pouliot, became one of the biggest box-office hits of all time in Quebec. A critical success, the film screened at over 65 international festivals, was sold in over 25 countries, and went on to win many prestigious awards such as the Audience Award at the renowned Sundance Film Festival.

Scott then wrote two more movies that were produced back-to-back: Maurice Richard and Guide de la petite vengeance, both of which were nominated for best screenplay at the 2007 Genie Awards. In 2008, he took a seat in the director’s chair with Les doigts croches, which he shot in Argentina with Roy Dupuis, Patrice Robitaille, Claude Legault, Paolo Noël and Jean-Pierre Bergeron. This film earned him another Jutra nomination for best screenplay.

He then directed and co-wrote the movie Starbuck starring Patrick Huard, which found major critical and commercial success in Canada and around the world. This film garnered the audience choice award at multiple festivals, including the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and the Palm Springs International Film Festival. The film also won the Special Jury Award at the Alpe d'Huez Film Festival. At the end of its theatrical run, Starbuck won theGolden Reel and Best Screenplay at the Genie Awards as well as the Golden Ticket at the Jutra Awards. The film has been sold in over 100 countries to date.

In 2013, Scott directed Delivery Man, his first American film, for Steven Spielberg's prestigious studio Dreamworks. For this production, Ken Scott directed such acclaimed actors as Vince Vaughn, Chris Pratt and Cobie Smulders. The film brought in more than $50 million at the box-office.

Following the success of Delivery Man, Scott directed his second U.S. feature film called Unfinished Business, which also featured Vince Vaughn and other prominent actors such as Tom Wilkinson, Dave Franco and Sienna Miller. In 2017, he directed The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir,based on the worldwide bestseller by Romain Puértolas. Ken Scott's talent for writing charming stories with universal appeal has led to remakes of many of his films. For example, La grande séduction has been remade in English, French and Italian. Starbuck was also adapted for French audiences as Fonzy and in English as the American film Delivery Man (2013).

With Au revoir le bonheur, Ken Scott has returned to write and direct a film in Quebec for the first time in 10 years. The comedy was selected in official competition at the Alpe d'Huez Festival in France in January 2022, where amazingly, the four main cast members walked away with wins for the best actor.

With every project, Ken Scott’s storytelling skills have won over the public and critics, in French and English, both at home and across the globe. His outstanding contribution was also recently acknowledged in France, which made him a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters.

With numerous projects in development, Ken Scott has by no means finished making his mark on film history.
